Scam artists targeting families of recently deceased
The Indiana State Department of Health warns residents Indiana, the scam artists are on the families of deceased persons by telephone and solicit personal information for death certificates.
In the scam, caller identifies himself as a representative of the Indiana State Department of Health, or the state of public health and the agency of personal information, such as date of birth, the address and social insurance number of the deceased.
“By law, Indiana, a person who comes from the party’s demographic death funeral director,” said Corey Ealy, director of the Department of Vital Records from the Indiana State Department of Health.
